SLO Food Bank Unveiled New GleanSLO Logo at Glean Event
Today, Tuesday, August 2, 2022, at 10:15 am, SLO Food Bank staff and gleaning volunteers came together to celebrate the rollout of the refreshed GleanSLO logo at FirstFruits Farm in San Luis Obispo (173 Buckley Road), a nonprofit farm that has been a vital partner of SLO Food Bank since 2014. SLO Food Bank unveiled their newly branded GleanSLO food rescue van featuring beautiful images of local produce. Operations Director, Emily Hansen, and Food Rescue Program Manager, Andrea Richards, shared their perspective on the history and mission of the SLO Food Bank’s GleanSLO program and why this new logo is a key step moving forward.
Since GleanSLO became a program of the SLO Food Bank in 2011, dedicated staff and volunteers have rescued over 2.5 million pounds of nutritious, fresh produce from local fields and backyards. SLO Food Bank is celebrating the impact of this program by unveiling a new logo that combines the SLO Food Bank brand with the unique spirit of the GleanSLO program and its wonderful volunteer gleaners.
“GleanSLO is a beloved program of the SLO Food Bank, and with this rebranding, we honor the incredible people, farms, and mission that come together to rescue food and increase the health of our community,” said Garret Olson, CEO of SLO Food Bank. “The new GleanSLO logo demonstrates SLO Food Bank’s continued commitment to supporting this impactful program as a key component of our critical mission to alleviate hunger.”
ABOUT GLEAN SLO:
GleanSLO is a food rescue program of the SLO Food Bank that organizes volunteers to collect leftover crops from farmer’s’ fields, local gardens, and the backyards of community residents. Gleaning is the act of harvesting the remaining produce of crops that were not economically efficient for the farmer or gardener to harvest themselves. We extend that definition to include harvesting crops from neighbor's backyards and rescuing produce from local farmer’s markets. All collected produce is distributed into the community through the SLO Food Bank’s programs and network of agency partners into the hands of neighbors in need. Through the GleanSLO program, we can celebrate local bounty grown in our County and offer a variety of crops to augment the produce we offer our clients. Gleaning reduces waste for the environment, benefiting both local farmers and people facing hunger. Additional facts:

GleanSLO rescued over 315,000 pounds of local produce in 2021.

The produce harvested in 2021 provided more than 262,000 meals to neighbors in need.
