As nonprofits face uncertainty, new classes offer board service and fund development education
SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. (February 18, 2024) — Spokes, an organization providing expert resources to empower the nonprofit community, is offering multiple new educational opportunities in March. The classes will help support nonprofit leaders, staff, and current and prospective board directors, as the nonprofit community faces uncertainty amidst new executive actions from the current administration.
"As executive actions create new challenges for nonprofits, strong and informed leadership is more crucial than ever," said Michael Simkins, CEO of Spokes. "We remain committed to equipping our local nonprofit community with educational resources to help them navigate this time of uncertainty."
New Spokes classes in March are as follows:
March 11: Better Decisions, Better Outcomes
In-person from 12 to 1:30 p.m.
Cost (includes lunch): $60; $35 for Spokes members

Designed for executive directors, board presidents and others who facilitate group decision making, this in-person class will teach structured facilitation techniques that encourage diverse perspectives, prevent groupthink and help anticipate challenges. More information here.
March 13: Board Service 101
Cost: Free
Online from 11 to 11:45 a.m.
Designed for prospective nonprofit board members, this free basics course will help educate interested community members on what to expect when serving on a nonprofit board––from personal and public benefits and responsibilities to time and financial commitment. More information here.
March 18: Grant Ready: Preparing Your Nonprofit for Grant Success
In-person from 12 to 1:30 p.m.

Designed for executive directors, nonprofit boards and anyone tasked with grant application, this class will teach the importance of grant readiness, what it takes to be prepared––from documentation to funder alignment––and how mastering the essential application components are critical to funding success.
