Our next Business Education Series topic will cover:
Payroll Fundamentals and Performance Management
Perhaps the most difficult aspect of complying with the various employment laws is simply determining which laws actually apply. This session will review relevant statutes and regulations, distinguish between federal and state law, identify which workers are covered and review the basics of the wage orders. We will review how "hours worked" is defined and will look at issues including on-call time, reporting time, travel time, meal and rest breaks, as well as how time must be tracked and paid. Performance management such as creating and setting expectations, objectively monitoring performance, giving effective feedback, documenting performance and performance evaluations will also be covered.
This is the second of a series of educational events. Future topics will include:
- Management Sexual Harassment Training and Avoiding, Answering and Resolving DFEH Claims (September 17)
- Managing Leaves of Absence and Understanding EDD/Unemployment (October 22)
- Conducting Internal Investigations and Safety and Security Responsibilities (November 19)
